Used in the treatment of various cancers, particularly non-small cell lung cancer and urothelial carcinoma. It functions by blocking the PD-L1 protein on tumor cells, which prevents the suppression of T-cell activity and enhances the immune system’s ability to detect and destroy cancer cells. Administered intravenously, it is often used in patients with locally advanced or metastatic disease, either as monotherapy or in combination with chemotherapy. Also being investigated in early-stage cancers and other solid tumors to improve long-term survival outcomes.
