Used in targeted cancer therapy, particularly for colorectal cancer. Binds specifically to CEACAM5 (carcinoembryonic antigen), which is overexpressed on many adenocarcinoma cells. This selective binding allows for delivery of cytotoxic agents directly to tumor cells when conjugated to drugs or radionuclides, minimizing damage to healthy tissues. Investigated in antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) such as labetuzumab govitecan, showing promise in clinical trials for metastatic colorectal cancer. Also explored in imaging applications to detect tumor spread and monitor treatment response.
