Used primarily in the treatment of major depressive disorder, particularly in patients who may not tolerate tricyclic antidepressants. It is effective for both endogenous and non-endogenous depression. Due to its reversible mechanism, it has a favorable safety profile with fewer anticholinergic and cardiovascular side effects. Commonly prescribed for elderly patients because of its low toxicity in overdose and minimal impact on cognitive function. Also used in social anxiety disorder and other anxiety-related conditions. Requires less dietary restriction compared to older irreversible MAO inhibitors, making it more practical in outpatient settings.
