Used primarily as a precursor in organometallic chemistry and materials science, especially in the synthesis of germanium-containing thin films and nanostructures. Its volatility and thermal stability make it suitable for chemical vapor deposition (CVD) processes, where it serves to introduce germanium into semiconductors and optoelectronic devices. Also investigated in the preparation of hybrid organic-inorganic polymers and as a reagent in the formation of germanium-based catalysts.
