description Product Description
Used primarily in the management of chronic gout, this compound works by lowering serum uric acid levels. It is prescribed for patients who cannot tolerate or do not respond adequately to other uric acid-lowering therapies, especially allopurinol. By inhibiting xanthine oxidase, an enzyme involved in uric acid production, it helps prevent the formation of urate crystals that cause joint inflammation and pain in gout. It is also considered in patients with frequent gout flares, tophi, or gout-related joint damage. Due to its hepatic metabolism, it offers a favorable option for patients with mild to moderate kidney impairment without requiring dose adjustment. Long-term use may reduce the frequency of gout attacks and promote the dissolution of existing tophi.
