It provides high coercivity and remanent magnetization, which allow for greater signal-to-noise ratio and improved sound and image quality. Its uniform particle shape and size contribute to smooth tape surfaces and consistent performance. Although less common today due to digital media, it was a key component in high-quality cassette tapes and professional recording media. It has also been explored in some specialized catalyst applications and electrochemical processes, but magnetic recording remains its most significant use.
