Used primarily in the treatment of advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC), especially in patients with poor prognosis. It functions by inhibiting the mTOR (mammalian target of rapamycin) pathway, which plays a key role in cell growth, proliferation, and survival. By blocking this pathway, it helps slow or stop the progression of cancer cells. It is administered intravenously and is particularly effective in cases where other therapies have failed. Also investigated for use in other cancers, including breast, prostate, and hematologic malignancies, due to its anti-proliferative and anti-angiogenic properties.
