Used primarily in the treatment of advanced gastric or gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinoma, especially in patients who have failed at least two prior chemotherapy regimens. It functions as a selective inhibitor of vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-2 (VEGFR-2), blocking angiogenesis and thereby suppressing tumor growth and metastasis. Investigated in other solid tumors including hepatocellular carcinoma, non-small cell lung cancer, and breast cancer, often in combination with chemotherapy or immunotherapy. Its oral bioavailability allows for convenient outpatient treatment, and it has shown efficacy in extending progression-free and overall survival in clinical studies. Due to its mechanism, it may cause hypertension, proteinuria, and hand-foot syndrome as common side effects.
