Used as a versatile ligand in coordination chemistry, particularly in the formation of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) and supramolecular architectures. Its three imidazole groups can coordinate with various metal ions, enabling the construction of porous materials with potential applications in gas storage, separation, and catalysis. Due to its rigid benzene core and multiple binding sites, it supports the design of stable and functional coordination networks. Also explored in catalytic systems where the imidazole units act as Lewis bases or participate in hydrogen bonding, enhancing reactivity or selectivity in organic transformations.
