Potassium silver periodate solution
Reagent
Code: #223161
Properties
Potassium silver periodate solution: Take 350 mL of pure water, add 20 g of potassium hydroxide, add 22 g of potassium periodate (KIO4) after dissolution, add 50 mL of silver nitrate solution (16 g/L) dropwise after dissolution, heat it on an electric heating plate until boiling, and add 6g of potassium persulfate (K2S2O8) while stirring within 2h. After the reaction is complete, add water to 500 mL. This solution is a brown-red clear liquid.

description Product Description
Used in analytical chemistry for the detection and quantification of certain organic compounds, particularly in oxidation reactions where selective degradation of substrates is required. It serves as a strong oxidizing agent in specialized laboratory procedures, especially in histochemistry for staining tissues to enhance contrast in microscopic examination. Also applied in electrochemical research due to the presence of silver, which can aid in the formation of conductive layers or support redox processes. Its formulation is occasionally employed in silver-based plating solutions where controlled oxidation and deposition are needed.
