Used primarily as an intermediate in the synthesis of herbicides, particularly in the production of triazinone herbicides. The herbicides derived from it play a key role in controlling broadleaf weeds and grasses in agricultural crops such as corn and cereals. Its ethylthio and tert-butyl groups contribute to enhanced selectivity and stability in herbicidal formulations. Also investigated for use in agrochemical research to develop new plant growth regulators with improved environmental profiles.
