Used as an intermediate in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals, particularly in the development of herbicides and fungicides. Its nitro and halogen functional groups make it valuable for further chemical transformations, such as reduction of the nitro group to an amine for use in coupling reactions. Also employed in the preparation of dyes and specialty organic compounds where selective substitution on the aromatic ring is required.
