Supports growth of pathogenic and non-pathogenic fungi while suppressing bacteria due to its low pH and addition of antibiotics in some formulations. Commonly used in diagnosing fungal infections such as candidiasis and ringworm. Also employed in environmental monitoring to detect fungal contamination in pharmaceutical and cosmetic products.
