Used as a colorant in carbonless copy paper, where it acts as a chromogenic compound. When pressure is applied during writing or printing, the compound reacts with a developer (typically an acidic clay or phenolic resin) to produce a visible image. It is valued for its sharp color development and stability in the leuco form until activated. Also found in some imaging systems and thermal paper applications as a component of color-forming layers.
