Edoxaban tosylate is primarily used as an anticoagulant to prevent and treat blood clots. It is commonly prescribed to reduce the risk of stroke and systemic embolism in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation. It is also indicated to reduce the risk of venous thromboembolism in patients undergoing elective knee or hip replacement surgery. Additionally, it is used for the treatment of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE), as well as for the prevention of recurrent DVT and PE following initial treatment. The medication works by inhibiting Factor Xa, a key component in the blood clotting process, thereby preventing the formation of harmful clots.
