Used as an electrolyte salt in lithium-ion batteries due to its good thermal stability and ionic conductivity. It helps improve battery performance at low temperatures and enhances the stability of the solid electrolyte interface (SEI) layer on the anode. Also employed in some organic synthesis reactions as a Lewis acid catalyst. Its moisture sensitivity limits handling but it remains valued in specialized electrochemical applications.
