EI1 is used as an electrolyte additive in lithium-ion batteries to improve cycle life and thermal stability. This results in better battery performance, especially under high-voltage or elevated temperature conditions. EI1 is particularly effective in cathodes based on nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) oxides, where it suppresses transition metal dissolution and gas generation.
