This complex is primarily used as a catalyst in asymmetric synthesis, particularly in enantioselective oxidation reactions. Its cobalt center, coordinated with a chiral salen-type ligand framework, enables selective transformations useful in the production of fine chemicals and pharmaceutical intermediates. It shows particular efficacy in epoxidation of unfunctionalized alkenes, where high enantioselectivity is required. The bulky tert-butyl groups enhance steric control, improving chiral induction.
