Used as a chiral resolving agent in organic synthesis, particularly for the separation of enantiomers of basic compounds such as amines. It forms diastereomeric salts with racemic amines, which differ in solubility and can be separated by crystallization. After separation, the desired enantiomer is liberated from the salt.
