Used as a highly selective ligand in transition metal catalysis, particularly in asymmetric synthesis. Its rigid terphenyl backbone and phosphorus-containing heterocycle enable efficient chiral induction in palladium- and rhodium-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions. Commonly applied in C–H activation and Suzuki–Miyaura coupling to form biaryl architectures with high enantioselectivity. Also employed in the synthesis of pharmaceutical intermediates where stereocontrol is critical. Soluble in common organic solvents, it facilitates homogeneous reaction conditions and can be recovered and reused in some catalytic systems without significant loss of activity.
