Used as a chiral building block in asymmetric synthesis, particularly in the preparation of chiral ligands and catalysts. Its rigid binaphthyl backbone provides excellent stereocontrol in enantioselective transformations. Commonly employed in the development of transition metal catalysts for reactions such as asymmetric hydrogenation and C–C bond formation. Also serves as a precursor in synthesizing chiral sensors and materials with nonlinear optical properties.
