Used as a highly selective chiral ligand in asymmetric catalysis, particularly in transition metal-catalyzed reactions such as asymmetric hydrogenation and C–C bond formation. Its sterically hindered structure with bulky tris(isopropyl)phenyl groups enhances enantioselectivity by controlling the approach of substrates to the metal center. The sulfur and phosphorus moieties stabilize metal complexes and modulate electronic properties, making it effective in rhodium- and ruthenium-based catalytic systems.
