Used as a chiral auxiliary and ligand in asymmetric synthesis, particularly in enantioselective catalysis. Its rigid binaphthyl backbone provides excellent stereocontrol in reactions such as asymmetric hydrogenation, C–C bond formation, and cyclization processes. Commonly employed in the development of chiral catalysts for pharmaceutical intermediates and fine chemicals where high enantiomeric excess is required. Also utilized in materials science for designing chiral sensors and optically active polymers.
