Used as a chiral ligand in asymmetric catalysis, enabling the synthesis of enantiomerically enriched compounds. Its rigid binaphthyl backbone provides excellent stereocontrol in reactions such as asymmetric hydrogenation, C–C bond formation, and enantioselective oxidation. Commonly employed in transition metal complexes, especially with rhodium, ruthenium, and palladium, to achieve high enantioselectivity in pharmaceutical and fine chemical manufacturing. Also utilized in chiral sensing and as a scaffold in the design of asymmetric organocatalysts.
