Used as a chiral ligand in asymmetric catalysis, particularly in enantioselective transformations such as hydrogenation and transfer hydrogenation of ketones and imines. Its rigid cyclohexane backbone and pyridyl imine coordination sites enable strong metal binding, commonly with ruthenium, rhodium, or iridium, to form highly selective catalysts. Effective in producing enantiomerically enriched alcohols and amines, which are important intermediates in pharmaceutical synthesis. Also applied in the development of homogeneous catalysts for fine chemical production, where high stereocontrol is required.
