BEMT (Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine, Bemotrizinol, e.q. Tinosorb S)
(You can earn points when purchasing any items and use the points with our SPF Lab service to measure the SPF)
BEMT (Bemotrizinol) or popularly known by the trade name Tinosorb S
(The company sells BEMT in a water-soluble form that is easy to use, provides high SPF/UVAPF, and has a light texture.)
Organic sunscreen (Organic Sunscreen or Chemical Sunscreen) that can protect against UVA/UVB light in the wavelength range of 290-370 nm can work well with other types of sunscreen and is highly stable under sunlight. There is no problem of deterioration when exposed to sunlight like Avobenzone.
BEMT is used in expensive, high-end sunscreen products because it is highly effective and stable in protecting against UVA/UVB light. It is recommended to use DHHB only in sunscreen products for the face because it is expensive. For sunscreen products for the body, it is recommended to use Zinc Oxide in high amounts to protect against UVA light because it is cheaper. Although the texture of the product (may be white and difficult to spread) is not comparable to BEMT, BEMT does not cause a white cast.
Summary of BEMT features
- It is an organic sunscreen that can block UVA/UVB well and is highly stable even under sunlight. It does not require other sunscreens in the formula to help increase stability, which is different from Avobenzone , which although it blocks UVA well, has lower stability and requires other sunscreens to help increase stability.
- Can be used with Physical Sunscreen such as Zinc Oxide or Titanium Dioxide without affecting stability, which is different from Avobenzone that cannot be used with Zinc Oxide , Titanium Dioxide and OMC because it will result in Avobenzone lacking stability, resulting in limitations in increasing the SPF and PA values of the formula due to limitations in selecting other ingredients that can help increase the SPF and PA values, especially OMC which is an effective UVB sunscreen.
BEMT is a highly effective UVB specific sunscreen covering UVB/UVA I/II with Specific Extinction E1%/1cm.

FDA regulations on the use of BEMT in any type of cosmetics

Japan: Not more than 10%
Products using this ingredient cannot be exported to the US because the US FDA has not yet approved BEMT.
The pH values obtained from BEMT-based formulas are based on market products.
