Used to treat acute migraine attacks in adults and children aged 6 years and older. It works by acting on serotonin (5-HT_1B/1D) receptors, which help reduce inflammation and constrict blood vessels in the brain, thereby alleviating headache pain, nausea, sensitivity to light and sound. It is not intended for prevention of migraines or treatment of other types of headaches such as hemiplegic or basilar migraines. Most effective when taken at the first sign of a migraine. Should not be used in patients with heart problems or cerebrovascular disease. Should not be used in combination with certain other migraine medications or within 24 hours of ergot-type drugs.
