Used in the treatment of acromegaly to reduce growth hormone levels when surgery or radiation is not effective or appropriate. Also manages symptoms of carcinoid tumors and vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) tumors, such as severe diarrhea and flushing. Employed to treat severe diarrhea in patients with AIDS. Used off-label for conditions like refractory peptic ulcers, esophageal varices, and certain types of hyperinsulinism. Available as immediate-release and long-acting injectable formulations for chronic management.
