Used primarily to treat hypertension (high blood pressure). It works by relaxing blood vessels, allowing blood to flow more easily, which helps reduce the workload on the heart. Also used in the management of chronic stable angina and vasospastic angina. In acute settings, it can be administered intravenously to control severe high blood pressure. Its vasodilatory effects make it useful in improving coronary blood flow and reducing myocardial oxygen demand. Commonly prescribed when other antihypertensive agents are not tolerated or effective.
