Used primarily in hormonal contraception and hormone replacement therapy. Helps prevent pregnancy by inhibiting ovulation, thickening cervical mucus, and altering the endometrium. Also treats menstrual disorders such as irregular periods, endometriosis, and abnormal uterine bleeding. Commonly found in birth control pills, either alone or combined with estrogen. May be used in transgender hormone therapy to suppress testosterone.
