Used to treat acute and chronic diarrhea by slowing down bowel movements. It works by acting on opioid receptors in the gut to reduce intestinal motility and increase fluid absorption. Commonly found in over-the-counter anti-diarrheal medications. Not intended for long-term use without medical supervision. May also be used in certain cases to manage symptoms in patients with irritable bowel syndrome or after bowel surgery.
