description Product Description
Used primarily as an antifungal agent, this chemical is effective in treating a variety of fungal infections of the skin, including athlete’s foot, jock itch, ringworm, and seborrheic dermatitis. It works by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, a vital component of fungal cell membranes, thereby disrupting membrane integrity and leading to cell death.
It is commonly formulated in topical preparations such as creams, gels, foams, and shampoos for localized treatment. In more severe or systemic fungal infections, it may be administered orally, though this route is less common today due to potential liver toxicity and drug interactions.
Also found in medicated shampoos to reduce flaking, itching, and scaling associated with dandruff and scalp conditions. Its anti-inflammatory properties contribute to symptom relief in certain dermatological disorders.
Due to its ability to interfere with steroid synthesis, it has been used off-label in the management of Cushing’s syndrome and certain hormonal skin conditions like androgenetic alopecia, although alternative agents are often preferred now.
