Used as a ligand in coordination chemistry, particularly in the synthesis of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). Its nitrogen-rich structure enables strong binding to metal ions, enhancing the stability and porosity of MOFs. These frameworks are applied in gas storage, separation processes, and catalysis due to their high surface area and tunable pore sizes. Also investigated for potential use in luminescent materials and sensors because of its ability to form complexes with lanthanide and transition metals that exhibit photophysical properties.
