Helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular events such as heart attack and stroke by inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase, a key enzyme in cholesterol synthesis. Often prescribed alongside diet and lifestyle changes. Also helps increase high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol and lower triglycerides in certain patients. Commonly used in individuals with type 2 diabetes or those with a history of atherosclerosis to slow disease progression.
