Used primarily in the treatment of severe psoriasis, including plaque and pustular types, especially when other therapies are ineffective or not tolerated. It helps normalize skin cell growth and reduce scaling, inflammation, and thickening of the skin. Also used in certain keratinization disorders such as ichthyosis and pityriasis rubra pilaris. Due to its teratogenic potential, strict pregnancy prevention is required during and after treatment. Often reserved for adult patients with recalcitrant dermatoses due to its long-term safety profile and monitoring requirements.
