description Product Description
Torcetrapib was developed as a cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP) inhibitor aimed at treating cardiovascular diseases by increasing high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol and reducing low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol. It was investigated for its potential to slow the progression of atherosclerosis and reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes. Despite showing favorable effects on lipid profiles in early trials, its development was discontinued after Phase III clinical trials revealed an increased risk of mortality and cardiovascular events. As a result, it was never approved for clinical use, but it played a significant role in advancing research on CETP inhibitors and HDL-targeted therapies.
