Mavacamten is used to treat symptomatic obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), a condition where the heart muscle becomes abnormally thick, making it harder for the heart to pump blood. It works by targeting the underlying mechanism of the disease—specifically, it reduces excessive cardiac muscle contractility by inhibiting cardiac myosin, an essential protein involved in heart muscle contraction.
