Used historically in the treatment of urinary incontinence and overactive bladder due to its dual action as a urinary smooth muscle relaxant and anticholinergic agent. It helped reduce involuntary bladder contractions, thereby decreasing urgency and frequency of urination. However, its use was discontinued in many countries due to the risk of serious cardiac side effects, including QT interval prolongation and torsades de pointes. Despite its withdrawal from clinical use, it remains of interest in pharmacological research for understanding bladder dysfunction and drug-induced arrhythmias.
