Used as a reactive intermediate in the synthesis of energetic binders for solid rocket propellants. Its bromomethyl groups readily undergo substitution or elimination reactions, enabling crosslinking in polymer systems. Commonly employed in the production of polyurethanes and epoxy resins where flame retardancy is required, due to the presence of bromine. Also serves as a building block in the preparation of cyclic oligomers and flame-retardant additives for plastics and coatings.
