It is effective in suppressing combustion by releasing bromine radicals during thermal decomposition, which interfere with the fire propagation process. Commonly applied in electrical enclosures, construction materials, and electronic devices where fire safety is critical. Also investigated as a precursor in the synthesis of boron nitride-based ceramics through pyrolysis.
