Used as a ligand in transition metal catalysis, particularly in palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions. Its sterically bulky and electron-rich phosphine groups enhance catalyst stability and reactivity. Commonly employed in C–C and C–heteroatom bond formations, such as Suzuki–Miyaura and Buchwald–Hartwig aminations. The oxygen-linked bisphosphine structure allows for flexible coordination to metals, improving selectivity and turnover in catalytic cycles. Also applied in homogeneous catalysis where air and moisture stability are beneficial due to the tert-butyl groups providing shielding.
