Used as a ligand in homogeneous catalysis, particularly in palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions. Its phosphine oxide groups can be reduced to form diphosphine ligands that stabilize metal centers, enhancing catalytic activity and selectivity. Commonly applied in C–C and C–heteroatom bond formation processes. Also utilized in the development of chiral catalysts for asymmetric synthesis when modified with chiral backbones. Shows good thermal stability and electron-withdrawing properties, which help fine-tune the electronic environment of the metal catalyst.
