Used in clinical research for the treatment of early-stage Alzheimer’s disease. Designed to inhibit BACE1 (beta-secretase), an enzyme involved in the production of amyloid-beta peptides. By reducing amyloid-beta accumulation in the brain, it aimed to slow disease progression. Despite promising mechanism, clinical development was discontinued due to lack of efficacy and safety concerns in late-stage trials.
