Used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections, particularly those caused by Gram-negative bacteria, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Commonly prescribed for infections in the respiratory tract, urinary tract, skin, bones, joints, and bloodstream. Often used in hospital settings for severe infections, especially in immunocompromised patients or those with cystic fibrosis. Also part of combination therapy for febrile neutropenia and in treating meningitis when caused by susceptible organisms. Effective in both adults and children when bacterial resistance limits the use of other antibiotics.
