Used to treat bacterial infections such as respiratory tract infections, including bronchitis and pneumonia, as well as skin and soft tissue infections. It is effective against a range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The prodrug is absorbed in the intestine and converted to the active form, cefditoren, which inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis. Commonly prescribed for community-acquired infections where oral antibiotic therapy is appropriate.
