Used to treat bacterial infections such as respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and otitis media. It is effective against a range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. As an oral antibiotic, it is absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract and converted to the active form, cefcapene, which inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis. Commonly prescribed in pediatric and adult patients when penicillin or other first-line antibiotics are not suitable.
