Used as an intermediate in the synthesis of liquid crystal materials, particularly in the formulation of chiral dopants for liquid crystal displays (LCDs). Its branched hydroxyalkyl side chains contribute to helical twisting power and temperature stability in cholesteric phases. Also investigated for use in organic semiconductors and as a building block in supramolecular chemistry due to its ability to form hydrogen-bonded networks.
