Used primarily in the treatment of neuropathic pain, including diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain. It functions as a ligand for the alpha-2-delta subunit of voltage-gated calcium channels in the central nervous system, helping to reduce neuronal hyperexcitability associated with chronic pain conditions. Its application offers improved pain relief with potentially fewer side effects compared to older gabapentinoid drugs. Currently under investigation for additional pain-related disorders.
