Used primarily to treat serious bacterial infections, especially those caused by Gram-negative bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Commonly prescribed for respiratory infections in patients with cystic fibrosis. Frequently used in ophthalmic formulations to treat bacterial conjunctivitis and other eye infections. Also applied in topical and inhaled forms for localized treatment. Effective in managing infections in burn wounds and in preventing bacterial growth in immunocompromised patients. Often part of combination therapy in hospital settings for severe systemic infections.
