Used primarily to treat bacterial infections, especially those caused by susceptible Gram-negative organisms. It is effective in infections of the respiratory tract, urinary tract, skin, soft tissues, and intra-abdominal areas. Often used in hospital settings for moderate to severe infections, particularly when broad-spectrum coverage is needed. Also used in combination with other antibiotics for empiric therapy in febrile neutropenic patients. Its activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Enterobacter species makes it valuable in treating nosocomial infections.
